What inspired you to write in the Sci-Fantasy genre?
I’ve always been inspired by fantasies set during space voyages, or that take place on alien worlds. Sci-Fantasy was not my intended primary genre. I had written urban and high fantasy prior to adopoting sci-fantasy. It stuck with me because it felt like the best fit for the types of stories I write.
Balancing worldbuilding & plot: how do you manage both?
“What if?” is a very important question to ask while I’m worldbuilding. I may fall in love with a particular world, and after awhile I ask myself this question. Not all responses lead to a nugget of lore worth keeping. I discard and omit more than I use. It is the same way with plots.
How do you maintain consistency across multiple works or series?
Instead of keeping story outlines, I spend a considerable amount of time crafting lore. A story founded off good lore has good consistency, because there is deeper connections between the arcs and themes. In addition to lore and themes, I’ll also consider previous manuscripts for specific details.
